knots in your stomach? nervous energy?
“You know it’s crazy how inattentive I’ve been. The thing with unresolved issues is, it compounds and if you ignore dealing with your emotions for even a little while the unsettling feeling in your stomach grows and compounds.”
“Yeah. I get that. Even if you let your mental and emotional state become a secondary priority for just a little while, every other aspect of your life goes out of balance.”
What are you feeling? What is your base state?
A lot of times, this modern world that we’ve created is itself the escape. You don’t need a substance, a dependence. Life starts to become your escape. There are a million things on your mind and more stimulation constantly bombarding you, all the time. There is so much stimulation that sometimes you don’t have the time to be you.
Maybe this is an uncommon feeling, maybe it isn’t. Regardless, it would be beneficial to ask yourself. What is it like when you’re normal? How do you feel in your base state?
A balanced state of mind is essential to do the things that you need to do or want to do. However, it is quite hard to achieve. There are always situations and problems weighing on your mind. If you let these stew in your mind, after a while you may forget and it may not affect you in the same way. It may not occupy your mind but it does not stop affecting you.
Personally, I’ve noticed the feeling of a knot in my stomach, an increased nervous energy, a higher likelihood of distraction from my focus. These are all physical manifestations of issues that start to weigh in on my subconscious that I try to push aside.
The analogy of a pressure cooker should give you a visual idea of how this works. Unless you find a release for the steam, it may become a bomb. You need to take the time to find a release for the issues that are weighing on you.
Personally, making the time to take it slow and get in touch with my breath and my thoughts have been incredibly effective. Further, getting myself into nature feels incredibly healing and restorative. Above all, taking the time to meditate, journal and just sit without doing anything every day is extremely important to get in touch with my body, mind and emotions. A little escape from the constant stimulation and bombardment of information goes a long way to make sure the nervousness and anxiety doesn’t compound.
That’s my secret to a balanced base state. Now, it's time for you to confront what you’re like without all the stimulation.
Face yourself,
